A Tour Of Three Pools
As the rain teemed down yesterday, I spent quite a lot of time looking at water indoors when I was taken on a tour of three different swimming pools in the constituency. At Harborne I donned a hard hat and got to see the part the public don't see - the tank as viewed from under the promenade. The pool itself was being well used by children and adults.
My last pool visit was at the Community Leisure Centre at Shenley in Bartley Green Ward. The pool there was closed for a while but is now repaired and back in use and it was great to see a class of children enjoying themselves on an evening when it was certainly too wet to play outdoors!
From Shenley, it was straight to Harborne for the Council's Ward Committee Meeting where a verbal update was given on the Harborne Pool situation which, after years of low maintenance, now requires a rebuild.
After months of people asking at the meetings for the feasibility study (which most realised was a necessary next step in the process), there was relief that is is taking place at last. The study will involve drawing up plans for a new pool and making a business case - important work which has to be done before funding can be secured for a new pool.
As I left the Harborne meeting to head home, it was still raining. One way and another, yesterday seemed to involve a lot of water for many people in the country, and for some, sadly, with very tragic consequences.
