Clean Sweep!

It was a fantastic night for the Tories in Birmingham last night! In Edgbaston we achieved a clean sweep, Peter Smallbone gaining the last Labour seat in the constituency (in Quinton) so that we now hold all 12 Council seats. What a change from 1997 when Labour had 8 and we only held 4.
The Parliamentary seat of Northfield no longer has a single Labour Councillor either as Tories won the last Labour seats in Weoley and Longrbridge wards.
Meanwhile in the north of the city, Erdington Ward was won with a massive majority, Matt Bennett won Stockland Green by 72, and our 18 year old candidate Gary Sambrook almost overturned a 1,000 Labour majority in Kingstanding - knocking it down to just 80. The picture shows new Quinton Councillor Peter Smallbone (on the right), with new Stockland Green Councillor Matt Bennett (centre) and Gary Sambrook on the left.
The full results for the Edgbaston constituency were:
Bartley Green Ward - Vivienne Barton - Con Hold Majority 2418
Edgbaston Ward - Deirdre Alden - Con Hold - Majority 1517
Harborne Ward - John Alden - Con Hold - Majority 1328
Quinton Ward - Peter Smallbone - Con Gain - Majority 376
